Restore failed (RS-* codes)

Error codes: RS-TARGET RS-EXPIRED RS-SNAPSHOT RS-BUSY RS-UNKNOWN

A failed restore is handled by a person. If data may be lost, open an urgent ticket from the support page and read What to do first now.

The restore page shows the steps that ran and the last lines of the database tool's output (passwords removed). The codes:

  • RS-TARGET: the target database could not be reached or refused the restore. Check the connection string you entered (it is used once and not stored), and that the user may create and replace tables.
  • RS-EXPIRED: the one-hour window for the connection string passed before the restore started. Start again.
  • RS-SNAPSHOT: the snapshot could not be read (removed by retention, or the file failed its checksum). Pick another snapshot, ideally a verified one.
  • RS-BUSY: a restore drill found the scratch database busy; it runs again later. Nothing is needed from you.
  • RS-UNKNOWN: anything else.

Restoring into the source database replaces data there. Prefer restoring into a new database first and compare.
